I'm in the USA once again! I have 3 weeks vocation from my position at KTM Australia so it's off to the my second home.  Firstly to sell my truck See it here! that's in California,  next its off to Millville national and then on to Jamie Brockman and April Shroyers wedding which is going to be in Toledo Ohio.  Jam packed three weeks!

A few days ago I went for a drive to buy a part for my truck and I happened to pass the Home Depot Centre stadium and my timing was perfect.  The X games were in full swing so I had to check it out.  I gotta say it was impressive.  Huge ramps, heaps of people.  Backflips galore.   I took a few pics too. Adelaide SX masters Rnd 1

Timmy Weigand won the first two finals in the Pro open class then suffered a bad start in the final race along with a late crash while battling through the pack with Daniel Reardon stuck on him like glue.  Weigand left Adelaide with second overall in points and only one point away from first position.  Unfortunately Weigand's Pro Lites campaign got off to a bad start when he didn't qualify.  The format has one qualifying race were a  top 10 finish gets you into the finals.  There isn't even a last chance.  My question is why can't more riders come through from the morning qualifiers to allow two heats and an LCQ for both classes? Everybody wins when the top guys are in the final.  Sponsors, teams, promoters, spectators alike.  Seems simple to me!

I ran the Apparel stand on the night but snuck away for a few pics.  I didn't get my good lens thanks to a camera rental place that didn't like the look of me.  So it was el cheapo camera for the night and I saved some money too!  I think they turned out ok considering.

28th January 06

Ok so its been a while since I have even looked at this site lol.  2006 has started off with a  bang that's for sure.  The AMA Supercross season couldn't be better.  Well it would be if I was there I spose but the next best thing is tuning in to the webcast every Sunday with the volume cranked and the lap times ticking over.

So why aren't I there you may ask!  Jeff Liesk at KTM offered me a position I couldn't refuse.  I'm the new manager of Hard Equipment and Apparel for KTM motorcycles.  I'm based in Welshpool Western Australia but will still get to all the races around this country at least for 06.   Its going to be an exciting year!

Another reason 06 is going to be huge is because my good friend Timmy Weigand is also working for KTM this year.  He's the new lead rider for the Motorex KTM Race team.  The first race is just two weeks away in Adelaide.  Look out for pics on this site!

Bloodshot inc clothing have stuck by Weigand for 06 which is great news.  The American will be based in NSW most of the year close to the race team HQs and practice tracks.

The first National MX race is scheduled for WA at Wanneroo (AJS).  I have already seen him ride the track and if all goes well he will win for sure.

Well that's all for now.   If you made it through that, heres a treat!  Another Desktop Wallpaper!

Timmy Weigand post Barrabool report

The Oceania MX championships in Barrabool, Australia are a team based event that features Australia taking on New Zealand with 5 rider teams, but there was one hard riding American present to keep them all honest. Timmy Weigand put in 3 flawless rides to come away with 3 second places behind world number two Josh Coppins. Weigand from California USA, an unsigned rider for the up coming 06 season set out to prove he has the speed and consistency to earn a team ride. A race like the Oceania MX championships in Australia can present such opportunities for riders to be noticed thus was a perfect off season race for Weigand.

Although Coppins looked to be a level above everyone on his world championship factory bike Timmy was able to run his pace in the early laps before backing it off a touch.  “I’m very happy with the way I rode today.  It was great to gauge my speed against Coppins to see where I’m at.” In the minor places behind Weigand were Craig Anderson, Cheyne Boyd (until an ugly crash in the final moto) and others such as Corrie Sargent, Daniel McCoy and in the Final moto Pro Lites rider Brett Metcalf.

Weigands 05 season was strung together last minute after a team ride fell through with the help of generous sponsors and friends, a bit of luck and a lot of hard work by Timmy while his competitors were testing and training.  “Its come to that time of year again where I’m asking myself if I should just get a regular job so I can pay my bills but all I want to do really is race my dirt bike.  I hope by racing events like Manjimup and Barrabool in Australia I can attract some attention and continue doing what I love.”

Weigands weekend of racing in Australia was supported by local sponsor LJ hooker and long time USA sponsor Bloodshot Inc clothing as well as a host of others like Honda Australia all willing to stand behind a rider with heart and dedication like Timmy Weigand.

Good news is that Weigand is currently negotiating a factory ride with an Australian team for 06.  He will no doubt be the favorite to win both Motocross and Supercross titles in OZ next year.  Opportunities still exist for other sponsors to gain generous exposure both in Australia and the USA with a supporting helmet, boot, and goggle deal as the team (to be announced soon) allows these personal sponsors to come on board.  A great opportunity to have your name on a winning rider!

The crew! (From left to right) Ross, Evan, Timmy, Clayton and me.

Timmy Weigand rode well on Sunday to finish second behind world number 2 Josh Coppins in all 3 races.  Barrabool was an opportunity for Weigand to race in front of the factory teams and press and has attracted some attention.  More news as it comes to hand.  Sorry this update is so late but its been crazy round here since I got back to Perth.

Above pic: Weigands white Honda for the Barrabool race!

Timmy Weigand is currently preparing to return down under for the 3rd time this year.  He is currently undefeated in Australia and looking to turn a few more heads on the east coast.  I gave him a call to see how his preparations are going and to ask a few questions.

Hi Timmy thanks for answering a few questions. How have you been keeping busy for the last few weeks leading up to the Oceania MX Championships in Barrabool Australia? I have been training pretty hard off the bike, either running or road biking getting ready for the upcoming season. I’ve been doing a little riding but not as much as I would like. All my time lately has been directed towards finding a ride for next year. On the phone constantly, stressed out.

So how is the silly season going for you right now? Still looking for that team ride?  It is going, but like a roller coaster, up and down.   You know it is just that time of year.

There was a lot of talk on the internet about Pastrana and Deegan in the 24hr race in California a few weeks ago. How did that go for you and who were your team mates for that race. My team mates were Andrew Short, Jeff Northroup, and Terry Fowler. Our team was the strongest out there for sure. We took the lead about an hour and a half into the race. Over the next two hours we build a six minute lead. So we were feeling pretty good. Then Fowler never came around. The rear hub broke while he was on the ridge of the course. He decided to billy goat down the side of the mountain. He got half way down before it turned into a 20 foot cliff. It took two hours to get the bike back and fixed. So we were now like 8 laps off the lead. We still managed to finish third.

Has recently getting married changed anything for you, your outlook on racing? It’s great!  Life isn’t that different being married really though.  It’s just on paper now and I wear a ring.

What AMA races are you likely to attend for 06?  As of right now that is yet to be determined.  I don’t really know what to expect for 2006, I hope to do the whole season but I am not sure if that will work out.

You have a new number for 06, Number 68!  Did you get attached to your familiar 59 of 05?  Are you superstitious at all with your race number or is it no big deal what number you run?  I didn’t really get attached to 59 but it would have been nice to stay in the 50s.  I have been in the 50s the last two years.   Number 68 looks cool though, I guess.  As far as being superstitious…I don’t know.  I won’t race with number 6 but besides that I’m not superstitious.

What are your goals for the Barrabool race?  I just want to ride consistent, have a good time and finish on the podium.

How will it feel to race against Josh Coppins and Craig Anderson amongst the many other fast riders down under?  It should be good racing, with tough competition.  It’s just like racing anybody else, you go out there with one objective….to go as fast as you can!

Thank for talking with me Timmy.  We all look forward to you arriving in Melbourne, Australia in less than one week from now.  I can’t wait!  I would like thank all my friends down under for being so supportive and hospitable.  I really look forward to racing in Australia and I always have such a good time.  I also want to thank Bloodshot Inc, LJ Hooker and Honda Australia. Mikado Propellers, www.eastcoast50s.com.au, Factory Effex, Renthal, UFO, Bridgestone, harding.com.au and Pro Circuit for making my trip possible.

Timmy Weigand to return Down Under!

In approximately 4 weeks, Timmy Weigand, 26 yr old pro from California, will return to Australia to take on some of the best motocross racers in the world at the highly anticipated Oceania motocross championships. The race is situated on the east coast of Australia in Barrabool Victoria (near Melbourne) and has already attracted riders such as Chad Reed, Josh Coppins and Brett Metcalf along with the usual fast Aussie and Kiwi racers.

This race will be Weigand’s 3rd appearance in Australia for 05. He hasn’t lost a race yet and is set to prove he has what it takes to compete with the world’s best on Aussie loam.

Weigand, who didn’t throw a leg over a bike till the age of 19, could possibly be the most underrated rider in the USA at present. Some nagging injuries and a super competitive Pro lites class this year in AMA motocross have hidden his true potential. With new found enthusiasm after recently getting married and some healing time while on his honeymoon, the hard working Weigand is currently back to his strict training regiment in preparation for the race down under and the upcoming AMA season.

Big thanks to Kenny Miller at Bloodshot Inc USA for his continued support. LJ Hooker Real Estate have also stepped in to help get Timmy Weigand back to Australia along with Honda Australia who are also playing a major part by providing a killer CRF450. These projects are very costly and sponsors are still being sort after. Ashleymx.com wishes to give Tim Weigand every opportunity to be at his best on the day and any help would be greatly appreciated.

I attended the Gravity Games in Perth Western Australia today.  I wasn't officially media for the day as I was helping out my friend who had a shop at the show.  It was a great event.  4 days of action.  Skate, BMX, MX Freestyle etc.  Free entry!  Matt Shubring was busting out the flips.  Jezza Ray, Mad Mike Jones and the only girl I've ever seen jump a ramp, New Zealander Mary Perkins were all going big.  The crowd loved it!   I took a few pics on Saturday during one show.  Check em out here!

1st October 05

Supercross Masters.   Melbournes Rod Laver Arena was host to the 4th round of Australias Supercross series this past weekend.  With Daryl Hurley out after his knee injury and Bloodshots Tyler Evans deciding to allow his knee more time to recover the pressure was right on the shoulders of the Sydney Supercross masters round winner Craig Anderson.  Ando the king of handling high pressure situations took a comfortable lead in the opening lap and led the 20 lap final from start to finish.  Defending champ Troy Carroll came in second but still leads Craig Anderson in the series by a mere two points heading into the final round.  In the Lites class Ryan Marmont took the win from Daniel Reardon.   Full results right here!

My weekend in Melbourne started with a botched lense pick up so I was left to use my el cheapo for the night.  It turned out OK and saved me some money.  The weather was great and the Crown Casino rocks!   The last round is in 4 weeks at the only outdoor, full size track of the year in Wollongong.  That will be awesome I'm sure.  I hope to be there.

Some pics from the weekend are right here!

20th September 05

Freestyle Motocross,  Billy Walls, Northam Western Australia.  It was the Northam Motorcycle festival and Sullen clothing along with RCR organised American Freestyler, Crusty Demon of Dirt Billy Walls to put on a demo for the crowd.  Billy was joined by the RCR regulars and together they put on an awesome show.  Billys Scorpion kiss of death was a crowd favourite.  He rode injured from a get off on Friday but thanks to the work of a local Chiropractor and wind/rain that cancelled Saturdays jumping Walls was able to recover enough to ride on Sunday.    It turned out to be a great event  for Walls who is heading straight to Vegas via his local doctor for the X games qualifiers next weekend. The event was a great practice for the Californian and he looks forward to coming back down under real soon.  Lots of pics right here!

Southwick Rnd 3 AMA motocross.  Extremely hot and humid. The big news was Reed breaking Ricky Carmichaels win streak in the first moto.  RC had a small crash and was unable to catch Reed.  RC still came in second and took the win in the second moto for the overall.  Bubba has a mystery illness.  John Dowd (nearly 40) came 3rd overall.  He was flying out there in the heat with the young guys.  The crowd loved it too.  He's a local.  In the 125 class Mike Alessi whipped em in the first moto but dnfed the second which allowed Langston to get the overall with his bad ankle. Rounding out the podium were Mike Brown and Ryan Hughes.  Full results click here!

I took a few pics too.  Struggled a bit in the heat.  I better do some training before Budds Creek next weekend lol!  Click here for the pics!!

6th June 05

Bloodshot clothing USA rider Tim Weigand won every single moto today in the south west timber town of Manjimup Western Australia. 6 starts for 6 wins. Second place went to former world champ Shane King. Both Timmy and Shane bolted there own suspension onto standard Honda CRF450s supplied by “The Honda Shop”. Timmy also received support from local businesses LJ Hooker and Jamie Brockman's Moto X treme.

KTMs Ryan Marmont put in some impressive rides also.

This race was Timmy's first outside of the USA. The 26 year old from Canyon Country California is a consistent top 15 rider on the AMA Motocross and Supercross circuit. He has two amateur titles and turned Pro 4 years ago.

The Manjimup track tests riders with a combination of deep sand and hard pack in a valley of tall trees. Timmy impressed everyone by launching his bike 1-2 m further than everybody over the single ski jumps that were strategically placed to reduce the overall speed of the wide open track. (His bike now has square wheels lol) Manjimup has also been the host of the Des Nations and World MX championships in the years past. This track has atmosphere!!

Timmy had an awesome time out here in Australia hanging with the locals, learning the lingo and he took home the big $$$. The only thing missing was a Kangaroo sighting. Maybe next time!!

Lots more pics from the race here right here !!

Here's some pics I took the day before at a practice track in Pemberton.  Theres a pic in here of the crazy jump he did that you may have heard about around Manjimup.  I was very nervous the day before the race lol.  Click here!

22 May 05

Crusty Demons Australian tour Perth Stop.  I was lucky enough to score the job of mechanic for the Crusty gig here in Perth.  What an experience!!  14 bikes to keep running for 3 practice sessions and show night.  Lucky for me things went smooth.  The show was actually cancelled on Saturday night because of the rain but it all went ahead Sunday night and darn was I impressed.  The show was slick and full of action all night.  The crowd really got into it too.  I've never seen that in Perth before!!   The coolest part for me was being back stage and seeing the other riders reactions to what there buddies were doing out on the huge stage full of kickers.  Even though myself and the riders had  seen the tricks before there's nothing like seeing the crowd reaction mixed with adrenalin and the excitement of the show.  Cool as!  I'm all about racing really but everyone has to check out a freestyle show at least once.  Its a different sport and these dudes deserve allot of respect. Hey I'm off to Adelaide for two more shows.  This time I will have a chance to take pics.  I got a few during practice last night still though.

I took a bunch of pics at the first state Rnd here in Western Australia.  The track -  AJS  Sand track Wanneroo.  The weather - dark and rainy.  It couldn't get any worse for taking pics unfortunately but great for racing I think.  The sand just soaks it all up.  Lots of different winners in both Pro classes.  Cant get better than that for close racing.

I got some pics at the opening of Jamie Brockmans new shop today.  It was a huge turn out.  The shop actually felt small at times but mostly because its so full of everything you could ever need. Its really the only store like it in Western Australia that concentrates on clothes and not parts and bikes etc.  This means they have your size and style plus heaps of girls clothes too.  They also had a sausage sizzle and big discounts.  96fm Radio were there with the black thunders.  Shannon Johnson (road race) brought his bike out for display and hung out all day too along with  Jeff Liesk.

I just caught Dallas SX on espn (yeah bit behind here in oz)  Also listened to the webcast on Sunday from Pontiac.  I've seen allot of racing over the years and I'm still blown away by the intense skill, speed and precision of Chad, Ricky and Bubba!!  They are in my opinion the greatest athletes of this era.  Heres a paragraph I stole from the Jeff Spencer interview in Racer x (Chad Reed and Lance Armstrong's trainer)

There's a lot going on in motocross. You have so many variables, from a rider's skill, to his fitness, to his bike and the team around him. How complex is motocross compared to other sports?
I think motocross by far is the most complex sport. You not only have the things you just mentioned there, but then you have the incredible diversity of physical assets that are required to be good. You need strength and endurance and flexibility, and you have specific skills on the motorcycle. You have to be able to travel well and sustain during a long season. In cycling, you have to be strong with your cardiovascular endurance, and in gymnastics you have to have strength, but in motocross you have to have it all.

That really sums up what I think every time I see these guys race.  My 2cents for today!!

5th April 05

Today I got a bunch of pics from Jamie Brockman's new shop "Moto Xtreme" in Fremantle Western Australia.  Its the place to go for any Moto related clothing.  Stocking brands Like Fox, Thor, Skin, Metal Mulisha, Spy, Ogio, Black fly's  and soon the coolest brands from California USA.  SRH, Bloodshot and Sullen.  The Grand opening is on the 16th April.  So come on down.  10% off everything!!!

Sorry didn't make it to St Louis SX.   I did listen on the net though and watched it the next morning on Espn.  Ricky Carmichael was insanely fast and Chad Reed tried his hardest all 20 Laps but ended the race very disappointed and frustrated.  Just look at his face after the final.  (Australian viewers in two weeks I presume)  The track looked awesome.  Tacky and had a sand section.  Plenty of race lines on this track.  I am covering  Daytona and Orlando, the return of James Stewart.  Cant wait for that.

Hey no SX pics but heres a pic of my new truck.  Its a Lifted 2000 Ford F150.  Nice big wheels. Electric everything.  I love it!!!  Just had my first Californian smog check too lol.  Check it out oh and that rain.  (Its not supposed to rain in Cali lol).

Sorry no updates all week.  I was a bit sick at the beginning then it just rained and rained so not much happened in the capital of supercross California.  Drove up to San Francisco late on Friday.  There was no Friday practice here as the track and pits are separated by a draw bridge that cant be left closed except for race night.  Click here for pics and more from Rnd 4 of the THQ supercross series.

Anaheim 2 race night!  Another awesome night of racing.  The cool thing about the first Anaheim race being a mud bath was that last night felt like a whole new venue and race.  I got heaps of pics too.  Click here!

Wow!! Seems I'm getting a few hits on my site now.  Thanks everyone for looking.  Makes it even more fun for me.  Haha its good to feel like I have something half important to do over here.  There's so many VIPs around here and $$$ at the races. I feel like a complete nobody sometimes.

Ok back to the racing - Friday Practice at Anaheim stadium!   Click here for a bunch of Pics

7th January 05

After two fine days the weather has turned bad once again.   Good news is the track was built on those two nice sunny days and completely covered in plastic.  Its pouring now!!  Day before the race.  90% chance its going to be a mudder!  I walked around the pits today.  As practice was cancelled not too much was happening.  Just some talk on different bike setups for the mud.  Seems the new noise restrictions are not to be enforced tomorrow as planned because the noise testing is not accurate in this weather.  Some teams may go back to old settings for a few extra horsepower.
